This authority is responsible for sanction of building plan and issuance of completion certificate in terms of the West Bengal Municipal Act 1993 and West Bengal Municipal Building Rules 2007. This authority is in practice of timely sanction of building plans if the plans are found in order For a building having height of more than 14.5 mtrs. Structural Stability Certificate from the Municipal Engineering Directorate is obtained prior to sanction of such building plan. The building plans that reguire relaxation of rules are examined by a committee formed by the Government in the Municipal Affairs Department for the purpose and in such cases sanction of the Building Plan takes place only after specific approval of the Government.
